thats a common misconception
communists actually aren't very honest about how the system works because if they were they'd never get in power
for example, the USSR became communist from a revolution that took over the country, and so did China (just like Adolf Hitler). Most communist regimes either took the Hitler route to power (which was overthrow the government and set up your own by force without the public's consent), or they lie to the people until they get elected and then unleash hell
But even when they overthrow countries, they (like Hitler) say it's in the name of strengthening and improving the country, and if they make it sound good, people will follow them blindly and ignore the despicable acts they're ordered to commit (or get too scared to call them out). Hitler, Mussolini, and Mao both did this very thing, and thats how they both got such a huge following despite killing tens of millions of people.
Stalin inherited an empire from Lenin but even he got in on the manipulation because he affected many other countries.
