Actually it's bc it used to be "nego history week" and they chose February because aligned with two famous black peoples birthdays and then it got extended to a full month

there were many reasons why certain people have months (minorities, woman, lgbt, etc)
mainly bcuz those people were segregated and in some cases, killed
the reason why they have months is because they fought for their freedom and equal rights
ofc i saw your other comment in which you said "it ruins the whole point of racial equality" which i disagree on but the part where you said "everyone's achievement is equally good no matter race" and that I agree on
everyone deserves to be racially equal and everyone is unique in their own way, but they have their own months to remind people that they had to fight in order to actually BE racially equal

it matters bcuz they were heavily segregated back in the day like I was saying
and to make it more detailed, they were forced to take different buses, schools, and in different places in general
and thats not the worst of it, bcuz there were white supremacists who made the Ku Klux Klan (as you probably knew) and they would set up wooden crosses in the backyards of colored people and burn it as a warning to them and they lived in fear
also there were also lynchings that happened and black people were killed brutally and they couldn't do anything about it
overall they were seen as not human so they fought their way to freedom and thats why it matter heavily that they were black bcuz they weren't seen as a human being
