Not nearly to this degree, and generally speaking, my generation allowed it to happen. When the fandom started to change between 2011 and 2013, that's when it went beyond our control, but the "powers that be" within the fandom didn't want to change anything because they cared more about safe spaces, sexual freedom and socialism than having fun, bonding and making characters.
When people with those interests got chased out, most of who remained were political perverts who excused their behavior under the guise of "acceptance" and fake values that would later be called DEI (which pushes for similar behavior sociologically).
We didn't know it'd turn into this, and that's completely our fault. Unfortunately as more of us want to change it back, some of our generations have come under ridicule, harassment, threats and potential doxxing just for speaking out against the fandom because people are brainwashed to think they're evil, while simultaneously thinking that sexual obsession and attacks on those who disagree are a good thing that should be encouraged.
