Apologies for the wall of text but this reminds me of a story I heard from the local coast guard
We had two bridges back then one built in '24 and the other in '75
We have a lot of sail yachts and catamarans in the harbour and one day back in '94 a yacht tried to go under the bridges
It's not a uncommon procedure usually the mast swung down so they can get it over to the top of the gulf so they could be loaded up and shipped by road
Well this time the crew forgot
(A bit of info, the tide rises quickly near the bridges)
The yacht drifted under before the mast hit the top of the bridge (about a good 20 feet above sea level) and collapsed in on itself and the yacht stayed there till 2018 when it was scuttled to make way for construction of the 3rd bridge
Another bit of info after this fiasco they moved the yacht loading ramp to the south-east to avoid the bridges
