A lot of the working GSDs (German Shepherd Dog) have black sable, multi color, or fully black coats. ‘Cause in Europe particularly Czechoslovakia, Holland, and Germany (arguably France) they aren’t as big on conformation, but rather dog sports particularly bite sports (I.e IGP(Shutzhund), French Ring, Mondioring, and KNPV). So they don’t pay as much attention on meeting standards for an example you look at working Malinois and they have black coats from being cross bred with Groenendaelers in Europe or sable coats from a Tervuren, but here in America the AKC has the Malinois, Groenendael, Tervuren, and Laekenois as separate breeds FCI has them all as the same breed just under different classifications so you can cross them with still counting as purebred. In Holland with the KNPV lines they really just care about workability so with the BRN registration they don’t have to be purebred they don’t really even have to have a proper pedigree. So in Holland they’ll mix a Malinois with a Dutch Shepherd then mix that dog with a cane Corso and then mix it with a German Shepherd and whatever breed it looks the most like it’ll be considered that breed. Sometimes for crosses between shepherds they’ll just call them “herders”, so anyways to get to the point that’s a black GSD.
