And so, y is the dependent variable, x is the independent variable. And because everyone says so, we plot independent on the x-axis, dependent on y-axis.

Now see how I write 'y' in terms of 'x'. I'm basically saying that WHATEVER value I put for 'x', 'y' will be thrice that. So, 'y' is DEPENDANT on 'x'.

The curriculum must be very different where you live. I learned about independent and dependent variables the first week of 6th grade. My science teacher made us come up with them all on our own like every week for our labs.
