The axe has a 0.8 attack speed, the sword has double that so it is twice as effective overtime, so for every one attack of that axe, the sword does 2, the axe does 9 damage while the sword would do 16. That’s what I found but I usually use sharpness or just an netherite axe.

Yes I agree and after stone I get iron but I skip gold cause it kinda sucks on durability.
