cool. splatoon has really simple customization, but even that seems to do the job

Sure anybody can recognize your username, it's even better if anybody can recognize your character.
The Tony Hawk's Underground Pro community keeps adding custom character mods from other media (not to mention the "secret skaters"), but there also is a very suped up create-a-skater mode featuring every customization piece from every game in the series.
