Why are these "hairs" moving and reacting to heat & water? Why are they being found on masks & test swabs? It'd be nice to understand what's going on here.

Masks often have electrostatic charges (which is why you shouldn't wash them with soap). That's what the hairs are really being moved by.

I mean, wouldn't healthcare workers be concerned about this since they've always worn these masks more than anyone else? Wouldn't they have been up in arms about it before anyone else, since they've ALWAYS had to wear these masks at work all the time?
