This is phototropism at work! Phototropism is the growth (in plants) towards sources of light. The tips of the plants detect where light is and send out mobile chemical signals (called Auxins) to cause more cellular growth on the shaded side of the plant. The faster growth on one side of the plant is what causes the bending. Biology is amazing!
