I saw it as a youngster, first run, in a theater... It scared the crap out of me...but yeah - I could tell how bad it was, even at a young age...
Ironically - tarantulas are pretty mellow, unless you're a grasshopper... I had one as a pet. They've got large teeth - but no venom that we'd need to fear. And they'd be more likely to run, than fight.
In Australia they have a pretty dangerous spider that's famous for hiding in and around toilets. In the US we've got Black Widows and Brown Recluses to look out for...
