Personally I thought that the cinematography was great a Joaquin Phoenix was brilliant in it but the screenplay felt poorly written and just in general the plot wasn’t the greatest. But it is a superhero movie so I think the director did a great job of showing how this genre can be considered a film and not just another super hero movie.

i hear you. i think for being in the super hero genre it definetly brought the plot down to a level of realism. the progression of crime/riots felt authentic and gave the impression of Gotham that many have tried to do. it set the bar for the grit in your DC setting. to me it seemed to be a Burton/Nolan combo of Gotham.

I thought the crime and riots gave the exact opposite effect actually. The rioting and crime was confusing. What was the message? Murders should be cheered on by roaring crowds? It felt a little too far fetched especially because Batman in Gotham is a hero to the people after he arrived. Why would they cheer on joker? I get Batman didn’t arrive yet but that doesn’t mean they were cheering on the bad guys until Batman showed up. I don’t follow Dc comics and I am not a big fan of superhero movies but this is what I think. Other than that I agree with you about the gritty tone of Gotham and how it was well done.

the riots and crime are resembling true ones. rioters take on many faces. just because your in a certain class doesnt mean you are inherently good or bad. the rioters and criminals are the base of the crime bosses like the Joker, Penguin, etc. the main premise was that of injustice of classes. the people cheering on Batman are the victims of the rioters i.e. future minions of crime bosses. Batman was also a victim as his parents were taken from him due to the riots or at least was an opportunistic time. but it was rioters against the upper class. again just because your in a certain class doesn't make you good or bad. murders are cheered on in real life. is there a reason? im sure but i dont know why. I used to think the opposite of class. envy is a bitch.

i would add a lot felt like tribute and should be a fan fav. even the clown masks with the side hair paid homage to the minions that Joker will eventually have.

I get what your say that future minions might be cheering him on, but that was a huge crowd. I see what your saying that sometimes murders are cheered but those crowds aren’t as big and that one was. It just seemed a little too big of a deal over some random guy who killed roughly 3 people (I don’t remember how many he killed by then). This is why I felt it was cheesy and confusing. Again I don’t watch that many super hero movies but I think I can speak for people who don’t watch super hero movies and say that was an interesting choice that might not have been a good choice because it was confusing to most people. Also in general I think they were trying to show how the Joker was driven to this point by people cheering him on because he had wanted that all his life being a struggling stand up comedian. It just took an extreme way to fast that didn’t match the the situation he was in. Like he was caring for his sick mom. A compassionate person does that not a psychopath. But yes he had been abused so that might play into it but he was super skinny, malnourished how was he able to run so fast and get away from cops. But I guess that just might be the “movie magic” aspect playing into it. That’s why I thought it was confusing and negatively impacted the film overall.

i read what critics said and just rented it with minimal expectations, yet i still held interest because i like the Joker as a villain. i think it captures Gotham, and the Joker brilliantly. hopefully you can watch it soon. it has made it in my favorites category which is a list of movies i can rewatch and enjoye every moment of it.

I want to see it more than any other movie. My parents have been letting me watch some violent movies, so idk why i can't see Joker, since violence is it's main problem.

yeah i let my kids watch it. i didnt see the "nudity" per se, just a glimpse of skin blobbed by camera angles. looks like you have a good taste for the cinema arts so i think you will appreciate it. when you get to watch it i hope you enjoy it.
