Upvotes are how you get points lol. Basically every time you have a meme featured you get points, then you get points every time a meme or your comment is upvoted. Meme comments get like 40 points per upvote, but a text only comment gets 2 points I think. Obviously the points are meaningless at the end of the day, but they do matter as far as more people getting to see your memes, and helping you get exposure as a memer. I guess you know that each meme when it's featured starts out in the "latest" section, so it's the last meme featured at the top, then the next to last is then moved down as each new one gets featured. But the hottest section is based on number of upvotes and comments. The more upvotes and comments they get in a short period of time, the faster it moves up the latest pages, then to page one if it gets enough. And it sort of feeds itself, once a meme gets traction, it's more visible to more users, so then it gets more action. And points eventually get you on the top 250 leaderboard, and you move up with more points. That part is just fun as far as bragging rights and setting goals for yourself lol. And of course there's the seven day leaderboard which is who makes the most points in the last seven days. I've been on it more than not recently. But it took a long time to ever make it. When I made the all time leaderboard it only included the top 100 and the threshold was right at 400k. I'm closing in on two million and debating whether to do a self reveal pic meme then or not. Lol Some users do at one or two million. I think I'm at like 24 on the all time leaderboard. Anyway, getting points helps more people enjoy your memes and comments. The crapper though is downvoting. Some of us get trolled by users with multiple alt accounts, and they downvote our memes and comments. If you get enough downvotes the meme will go back to submission, and just a few downvotes can kill its momentum. And it effects how visible comments are too. Mine usually end up lower on a thread because I always get downvoted, even when I get in early comments.
