The purpose of a weapon is to extend your reach, increase striking power, and possibly scare the daylights out of your enemy. You might as well give your weapon to your opponent if you are going to walk up and shove it right in their face. All someone would really have to do is swat it aside, step forward, and attack the attacker. Plus all the martial art moves designed to disarm and take down an attacker. I don't understand the logic in getting so close with a gun. But hey, it makes it easier for the other person to defend themselves.
