because it was shielded, besides the thats steel wool, its thinner and has less thermal capacity so of course it will explode, steel rods however have higher thermal capacity and can withstand more radiation, not to mention all key parts of the spacecraft were shielded and properly thermally equalized.

still an interesting question though

And what happens when X-rays and gamma Rays hit a metal craft? (hint: put some poptarts in the microwave without removing them from the pouch). Steel is steel, an absolute vacuum is a absolute vacuum, water boils at room temperature in a vacuum...and how can you thermally equalize in an absolute vacuum? To where would the heat from the radiation dissipate? What would be the medium by which they could transfer the heat away from the craft while an absolute vacuum? It's seems they would have ever increasing radiation, and thus ever increasing heat to deal with, with no way to cool down by creating an exothermic reaction. Also: what protocols did they have for micrometeroid punctures for their craft and suits? A 1 gram micrometeroid is commonplace, and at 20,000mph...would devestate even the most high tech kevlar of the day (1969?)
???????????? these are serious questions, hopefully can draw a serious response. Thanks in advance @derpistheword

take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacecraft_thermal_control it has everything you need to know about thermal heating on spacecraft and heres the one on shielding: http://www.popsci.com/blog-network/vintage-space/apollo-rocketed-through-van-allen-belts - also i detect hostility in your text.

you realize its DESIGNED for space right?
if you are unable to comprehend facts i shall leave this conversation here as i have more pressing matters to attend to. good day!

And as for your PopSci article...why would NASA admit they can't get past #VanAllenBelts in 2014 if they already did it in 1969? #FakeSpace https://youtu.be/NlXG0REiVzE

Your Thermal Requirments section just isn't checking out! At absolute vacuum temperature of -270.45°C...NONE of the equipment cited would function! #FakeSpace #EarthIsFlat #NasaLies http://www.universetoday.com/77070/how-cold-is-space/

sigh, you realize the equipment cited HAS TO BE HEATED AND TEMPERATURE MONITORED hence having heating elements in the spacecraft! good grief and you believe the earth is flat too? hah, no way I'm ganna talk to you, i can't stand people who discredit many years of lives taken and hard work, GOOD DAY to you sir!
