There is a common trend of addressing news events by saying “nothing ever happens” likely in reference to the fact that even very major news events don’t change peoples’ lives very much. However, sometimes there are things that happen that so big that it’s funnier to make jokes about something happening than it is to make jokes about nothing ever happening.
