Made by German painter Albrecht Dürer in 1500, this self portrait is an example of the changing social position for artists during the Renaissance. This painting is known to compare the look of Dürer to that of Christ, which symbolizes both the enduring presence of religion at the time and the elevation of the artist’s status. Such status was not exclusive to Dürer. His symbolic elevation also signifies the resurrection of Humanism during the Italian Renaissance.
