To show how some muscle fibers increase in length and others decrease in length when the joint a muscle crosses moves in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the action of that muscle at that joint in the case where it does not produce a twisting or torsional shape change but a shape change in which half appears to experience shear lengthening strain and the other half shear shortening strain. Not exactly the same as pure shear
