This meme was found in the 1944 one-reel animated cartoon called Tom and Jerry, the episode name being "Mouse Trouble", where Tom reads a textbook about catching mice to attempt to capture Jerry. In this scene, Jerry beats up the poor cat, and Tom says, "Don't. You. Believe It.", voiced by William Hanna. This meme is used when you are confident of something because the public also thought so but the opposite of what you thought happens.
