One more outlet: if someone doesn't like the charities I mentioned, check for a local consignment auction. Someone will usually buy it, and reuse it themselves, or resell it on eBay. Money generated to you can be kept for yourself or, donate to the charity of your choice.
Looking around my apartment, most everything I have came from such auctions. About the only things that didn't were MOST food items, some storage containers, and two cats.
