Episode 1 wasn't that bad, and Jar Jar Binks wasn't that annoying.

The Phantom Menace was a slightly-better-than-average, decent movie when everyone expected an over-the-top, legendary, best-of-all-time movie. I think that's why fans were disappointed with it when it came out.

As for Jar Jar Binks, he's a comedy character who was supposed to be goofy.

On the other hand, Episode 7 is just a poorly made movie, full of bad to mediocre creative decisions about story and character. It tries to copy Episode 4, but misfires and gets almost everything wrong.

And it has a character who is far worse than Jar Jar - Rey. Basically a whining, androgynous, feminist-agenda puppet whose only function seems to be to make everyone around her look like they don't know what they're doing in comparison.

The fact that she was intended to be a serious character, but came out looking like a bad joke, shows how clueless and clumsy J. J. Abrams is at making films. Add that to every other bad story-telling decision in Episode 7 and you have a movie that should be publicly apologized for and remade.

There's no way that anybody taking an objective look at the story and film-making of the Star Wars films could ever say that Episode 7 is even in the same league as Episode 1.

The point of this meme is the fact that everyone stated when Episode 1 came out (and many still say about Jar Jar) is that it ruined the whole Star Wars franchise. What most people don't realize, and I would bet that I could include you in on this, is that there are just as many, if not more, similarities between episodes 1 and 4 as there are between 4 and 7.

As far as Rey goes, there are a lot of similarities between her and Anakin in episode 1. And if you compare Rey to Finn, Finn appeared to know how to do absolutely nothing. So by comparison, it would appear that would make it seem as if she was the only one who knew how to do anything. Finn barely knew how to work the blasters on the Falcon. But if you do the comparison to Anakin, Anakin was able to fix nearly anything at a young age. He was able to build a pod racer out of scrap parts. He might of lucked out in this part, but he figured out how to fly the starfighter. And then the comparison can be made to Luke. Luke was arrogant in everything he did, including when he bragged about shooting womp rats or about his ability to fly. Honestly, how Rey was portrayed is not much different then how Anakin or Luke was portrayed.

I believe the biggest problem people have with episode 7 is that things that took place in the novels that were written about the same time period didn't take place in the movie. For instance it doesn't appear that Han and Leia had twins. Most of the complaints for episode 7 come from those who read all the novels and then get butt-hurt over the fact that none of them are considered cannon.

I am in no way trying to state the episode 7 was perfect, as there would be things I would change myself. But what I really think you missed from this meme is what I stated at the beginning, many people stated after episode 1 came out that Star Wars was ruined, just as people are saying that about 7.

I don't know anything about the novels except what I've heard from other people, so that wasn't a big factor for me in terms of Episode 7.

I didn't like Episode 7 because it's a poorly-made movie. It's irritating when people take something that is of poor to mediocre quality, and pretend that it's good.

Episode 1 might have been a 6 out of 10. Episode 7 was a 3.

The problem here is that you look at it as an individual movie instead of part of a trilogy. Episode 4 was created to be an individual movie, in case it didn't do that well. After the success, they went ahead and did the other 2 movies. Both 1 and 7 were created to not be looked at as an individual movie, but to be 1 of 3. You might see it as poorly made, I see ot as what it is, incomplete. Everything you have listed as why the movie was bad, I can point out the exact same things out in 1 and 4. Really think about this before answer, was the movie in of itself really that bad, or do you find fault in it because it was J J And Disney that made it and not Lucas?

But yes, I see what you're saying about the point of the meme, about the parallel between what people said about Episode 1 and what people say about Episode 7. Thanks.
