It seems like it's more popular than the prequels, and (up to now, at least) more well-received. I don't think it's a better movie, though.

I'd rate the prequels somewhere around 6 out of 10, and The Force Awakens maybe around 3 out of 10.

I honestly enjoyed Episode VII a lot more than I-III. The only things that really bothered me were the CGI characters.
