Every time I go to 'more templates', it takes me away from the meme page

I had that trouble, too. What I do now is download the image I want to use, and then use "Upload your own image" when making a meme comment, and that works for me.

Another way that might work is to choose a popular template for your meme comment, then use the Add Image function at the top to search for another image in 'more templates' and insert into the Popular Image, then drag the edges so it fills the whole space. If the images were similar proportions (square to square, or rectangle to rectangle), then that should work without distorting it too much.
