It's another one of the ways in which sin is expressed. It's true that we were created in God's image, but our ability to reflect God's image was affected when sin entered the world.
Another example of sin is lying. Lying is wrong, but we're born with it. You don't have to teach children to lie. Anger, violence, selfishness might be other examples that show the sin that we are born with.
