Here's how it works. Gas prices go up - food prices to go up to offset the loss of profit, and to pay the higher price of delivery. Gas prices go down. Food prices remain the same. Gas prices go up again - food prices go up to offset the loss of profit, and to pay the higher price of delivery...lather, rinse, repeat.

Amok vs. amuck

Amok is the 21st-century standard spelling of the word meaning (1) in a frenzy to do violence, or (2) in an uncontrolled state. Amuck is an old alternative spelling of the Malaysian loanword, and it had a few decades of prevalence before the middle 20th century, but it has now fallen out of favor. A few usage authorities still recommend the latter spelling, but amok is preferred in edited writing of this century.

Even if amuck was the preferred term, it needs to be one word to make sense. Otherwise, you are describing a 'muck', which is like dirt and nonsensical. Also, 'amuck' is not the Malay word. That’s the anglicised version.
(also 'use to use' should be 'used to use')

Also.. Oil is used to make more than just gasoline.. Plastic, for example.. And when the price per barrel goes up, cost of goods increases as well. Companies don't generally want to raise the prices of their products.. Higher prices generally equal lower volume while merely maintaining net profit which doesn't look good to shareholders. It's not necessarily corporate greed in every scenario.. At least on the part of the food manufacturers.. Although in all likelihood there's quite a bit of symbiosis in generating political capital to push for legislation which is beneficial to all parties involved except the consumer.

There is oil in the ground. Countries regulate how much oil will be taken out of the ground for a period of time. Recently Saudi Arabia decided to not put many restrictions into place. Oil is abundant, therefore cheap. Food is grown and growing depends on natural conditions; there is not a fixed amount. Only a good growing season brings down food prices, but oil prices depend on the oil providers. I have no idea what I'm doing with my life.

Trucking companies set a contract yearly to carry goods. Until all the contracts are renewed the old prices stay
