Man, I was just thinking about that two nights ago. Michael Moore was bragging about how his uncle (or maybe great uncle) established the unions in Flint and everyone was fat, dumb, and happy (pun intended) for decades.
Then, the automakers decided to pull out of Michigan if favor of overseas manufacturing or the southern states with no unions. Duh! The unions priced themselves out of the market, but no one gets that! Just like the conversations about raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Ford's idea was to pay his workers high enough wage that they could afford his products. The difference is that he did it on his own, knowing that his company could afford it and not being pressured by the unions or the government.
Great meme!
