You're right. It brings in a lot of upvotes, at least now (it didn't when I started doing it). I don't mind that obviously, but hopefully people click on the links to upvote the original memes too.
The main goal is to encourage people to check out the 'Latest' stream on their own. I have a feeling most people who come to the site check the 'Hot' pages only. If more people went on the Latest stream regularly, there would be more variety on the Front Page, which I think would be a good thing.
