Well, that's a matter of opinion. I like some "metal" but a lot sounds more like random noise than cohesive melodies. I like some though.

That's not to say that pop music isn't the shallow garbage that it tends to be. But, I still find some of the pop songs from 85'-99' "good". But it's like a 1/10 thing for me. You have to listen to 9 crappy pop songs to hear one good one.

I like stoner doom metal myself, like Pelican, Om, and Earthless. Anything I can get blazed too and not lose my buzz is great actually. :{
