As a gun owner i am all for making it really hard to get and keep guns. And I think they should be registered and insured. If you "lose" a gun you should be prosecuted. All guns start out legal. It's not like S&W is selling them out the back door to criminals.
Personally I think we need:
mandatory background checks
mandatory training before you can get a gun
mandatory registration
mandatory insurance of each gun
losing guns can result in losing right to buy guns
Now when you finally stop the bleeding of "legal" guns into criminal hands like they end up now...the criminal "illegal" guns will be taken off the streets like they are now in traffic stops, raids, busts, etc. By simple attrition you will eventually have FAR fewer "illegal" guns out there.
And no one has taken away 1 gun from responsible, legal owners.
You still have the RIGHT to own guns....and no one is taking them away.
See...It's being "well regulated"
