Star Wars is based on ancient myths, and on movies and serials that George Lucas had seen.

True, some have called Episode 4 a "western set in space".

I would have to say that although I can't cite exactly which "ancient myth" it is based on, that episodes 4, 5, & 6 borrow from some very common themes. Daddy issues, redemption, and mythical quest are just three, there's probably more. Wikipedia bases that article on Christopher Booker's work. However, I've read Christopher Booker, and he adds two that are not listed on the cover of his book:

1. Detective solves a case
2. The wandering Jew

So according to his system, it's really 9, not 7.

(Other authors/scholars would have different ways of classifying it anyway, and might come to a different number. The "seven basic stories" is an arbitrary classification to some degree, not set in stone.)

It's cool that you've read that, I'm adding it to my list o' things to read. I know that Wikipedia's not the best source, it was just the most convenient :)
