Disney is ripping people off with mediocrity and false diversity, not to mention being perpetually unoriginal

I really didn't like the ending. It was trying to emulate Yavin, but there was no build-up of tension at all. Everything just felt flat, like they were just ticking boxes. And there was no good defining character moment in the space battle - such as Episode 4 had, in the classic moment when Luke let go and trusted the force. Rey's "moment" (which might have been meant as a substitute for that) was just weird.

lol There wasn't any space battles. That's what Star Wars is all about Disney! TFA is the first SW film to not have a space battle.

TPM = Naboo fighters vs Droid control ship.
AOTC = Obi Wan vs Jango Fett.
TCW = Twilight vs Droids.
ROTS = Battle of Coruscant.
ANH = Blockade Runner vs Star Destroyer, Falcon vs TIE's, and Death Star.
ESB = Falcon vs TIE's in the asteroid field.
ROTJ = Death Star 2.
TFA = Jack shit.

Good point. Shouldn't have called it space battle. It was all in the atmosphere.

But you know what I mean, about the tension? I should watch A New Hope again. There was really good build-up in that final battle.

I didn't mean to sound nitpicky on that. It's just irking me how shitty TFA is and the way it's getting protected from criticism.

The people defending TFA are now trying to fault the negative critics for using a larger vocabulary. That should really worry intelligent people.

But Star Wars is what it is, because there's always a space battle. TFA has the TIE fighter being shot down, and that's it.

The OT and PT and TCW films, as well as the made for TV Ewoks films all had better tension and story telling than TFA.

TFA is a dumbed down SW for the unwashed masses who like to say they're fans of SW, when they really mean sci-fi, feel like they're in on some collectivist movement.

I plan on watching all 9 of the non Disney stuff(1-6, TCW, and the Ewoks films) over the next few days myself. I'm tempted to make a YT video review or some sort of plead to Lucas to get SW back. lol :{

No, it wasn't nitpicky at all. I just made a mistake. I should have written "final battle" or "climactic battle" instead of "space battle," because you're right, it wasn't a space battle at all.

If you do end up doing a youtube review, or blog, or anything at all, I would like to see it. I like reading the insights you have about Star Wars that I've read on this site.

When you say TCW, do you mean all the TV series, or is there one particular one you'll watch?

I'm not familiar with the Ewok movies, either. I think I've seen a holiday special one where two young children get transported to an Ewok planet (or something like that?) but it was a really long time ago so I don't really remember the details.

TCW is the 2007 film that started the CW 3d animated series. It actually had Christopher Lee as Dooku and Sam Jackson as Mace Windu. But for some reason they couldn't get Ewan or Hayden.

But the whole series of Clone Wars and Rebels are worth watching if you consider yourself a SW fan. You just have to be prepare for the Jar Jar stuff for kids.

That's the first Ewok movie, Caravan of Hope. The second one, The Battle for Endor, is about these Marauder aliens that get a "witch"(I always assumed a Dathomiri Witch/force sensitive) to help them find a crystal or something. They're both kids movies, but as a SW fan, they add to the other films as supplemental viewing.

If I do make a review video on YT I'll give you and Invicta the link. I just have never made a video where I talk or had a clear point. I probably won't ever get around to doing it. I really want to though. :{

It totally would be faster/easier to blog it with the exception of making my own website. I would want my own site if I was going to make it a regular thing.

The YT video would just be to get the info/perspective out there. People are really being taken by companies like Disney, doing that much hype for a mediocre movie and only caring about the business part of it. The f**k the fans over every time they make a Marvel movie and now they've expanded to Star Wars. See what I did there? :{

"Mediocre movie" is a good description for TFA.

It gives it too much credit. A person can only like it having not seen the OT, PT or read any of the EU.

Basically sci fi fans like it, but Star Wars fans hate it.

And that's by definition.

Fan is short for fanatic, and you can't call yourself a SW fanatic if you don't read/like that original canon. It wouldn't be excessive zeal or interest in SW otherwise. You can be a fanatic of sci fi genre films though, and like TFA. :{

By the way, I would probably be in the category of those "unwashed masses" that you're talking about. I loved the original trilogy, but I know very little about the expanded universe (I've maybe read 1 or 2 of the books).

Nah the unwashed masses is referring to the crowd mentality types. You're too much of an individual for that.

HW seems to be dumbing down tv and movies though. People are complaining about TFA critics for their vocabulary. And it's sad to think of how most complaints about the EU come from people who haven't read it and claim it's "convoluted". It's not if you can read a novel still. Most people seem to only be able to watch videos and tv and wont even pick up a book anymore. I blame HW for giving people ADD essentially with shaky cams, lens flares, and overusing fast paced dialogues. They're trying to make everything like an Arnold Schwarzenegger action film. :{

That one right there - is a really, really good Grumpy Ewok meme. I think you should consider submitting it. And it's still funny out of context - the idea of Grumpy Ewok hating Hollywood's soulless movies really works (at least, I think so).

I thought the Obi Wan one was really good too, but I think it would be better in a dual panel, with Obi Wan on top saying the line, and then the stormtrooper on the bottom repeating it.

I'll have to get a shot of the Trooper's reaction for it. :{
