Hah! You are absolutely correct. I couldn’t decide between proper and informal/conversational so I went with the latter. And thanks. I don't mind having errors pointed out by -friendly- members of the Grammar Police.
I just couldn't resist. Although, in casual speech, it's accepted to use "they" as a neuter possessive to replace "his", so I'm just being a doofus by correcting that. :P
