i do think popularity helps. they make good memes, but if we all had a small mob keeping up to date with all of our memes and whatnot, we'd probably have a few more points.

not to have a dig at them or anything they do good memes. just a couple of followers will attract more until you have a pretty snowball effect happening

I look at the 'Recent' memes and realize why they're so famous. But they're on the leaderboard, so pretty much everyone sees their memes.

It doesn't work like that. People would only see the memes of leaderboard users if they click on their names out of curiosity (I don't know how many people do that and how many don't).

My memes feature in the Latest stream like anyone else's, and I don't have any special way to get more views on my memes.

I don't think it's fair to say "pretty much everyone sees their memes."

How would a new user know anyone's popularity. . By glancing at a leaderboard? Or even the front page?

It took me a while on imgflip before I really figured that stuff out, or even really looked at it.

When you're browsing the front page, the weekly leaderboard is to the right of it, so you can look there I guess (but even then, someone brand new to the site wouldn't know if people are "popular" if they're on that weekly leaderboard, or if they just had a few hits in the last week).

And I don't think everyone knows that you can click on people's names to see their memes.

It took me a while to figure it all out as well.. actually,.. I had just made the top 100 users list & got my 1st great advice from Tets and Evilmandoevil that helped me understand, and some pointers from you and raydog. As a new user,.. i would not be brave enough to make any assertion against anyone.. especially if they were a popular user. I was naive about alts and trolls as well. You also assisted me on understanding the troll issue aspect.. and tets explained the alts during his time of "conflict" with another user. This is not a new user..

I think the main reason we have a lot of points is because we're really active on the site, especially with meme comments.

Having our names on the leaderboard certainly doesn't hurt, but I don't think it helps as much as this guy might be thinking (and I noticed he didn't mention other people from the leaderboard in his equation).

I just don't think people would upvote a meme they didn't like, just because they recognize the name of the person who made it from the leaderboard. It just doesn't work like that.

Many comment memes draw mega points.. and the more creative u are,.. more points.

I'm pretty sure most of my points are from comments, not memes. The way I remember it, I was rising up the leaderboard long before I got a meme on the front page.

The creative comment memes to me are often more hilarious than the memes themselves. ;D

Truth.

I hope! By creativity. . I refer to an example like when you put the Burqa on miss piggy! Hilarious! I lack that ability. . And enjoy that users like yourself can do that. I lack that ability. . And use a handful of generic templates. So I really REALLY enjoy what others do. That's all I was referring to, since you can do that in comments where as you pointed out, generates a lot of points. Keep it up.. ! ;) I hope he or anyone else did not misinterpret what I meant. I don't articulate as well as others either.

xensuinsoldier appears to not agree with me that your creative comments help with points, by his statement above. Is there a conflict in what I said? With you.. or something I did I am not aware of.. or something else? He's always been cool dude. Anything u can share?

I don't think "creativity" always gets upvotes. I think people generally will upvote things that they find funny, or things that make a statement they agree with (politics, religion, entertainment tastes etc). That's not always the same as "creative." Sometimes creativity can help, but not always. Sometimes too much creativity might even be a detriment (vote-wise, anyway).

I think he maybe phrased his point in an extreme way. I don't think what you said was "absolute and utter bupkiss" at all. But I do think he's right to point out that creativity and upvotes don't always necessarily go hand in hand.

I don't think it's a big drama. He's maybe just coming at it from a different angle, if that helps. :)

You would not believe how hard I'm laughing right now. That statement is absolute and utter bupkiss.

Bupkiss! Darn auto spell. ;) you don't think creativity has anything to do with it? I'm confused

had to reply up here,.. no worries,.. I knew something was misunderstood,.. you're too cool a guy to just blurt something. I did not write it very clear. ;)

Why? I can't design memes like some folks.. who can be creative. You don't think so? Raydog, Mememaker. . Socrates.. make good memes.. you too. Mine are all the generic templates. What's but kiss about that?
1 up, 10y
[image deleted]I'm saying I make a bunch of custom templates and use clever wording on memes, but they don't get much attention. Like this one.

I hope everything is cool between us. Maybe I did not word it better. I probably explained better below. Or possibly misunderstood.

had to reply up here,.. no more reply space - well,.. socrates was talking about his points by making a lot of comments to memes, which he does a lot. I notice that sometimes if there is a witty meme,.. it seems to fuel a lot of cool creative meme comments, which generate points. you dont think so? I see comment memes with way more points than original memes. I don't understands why thats bupkiss?

I misunderstood, sorry. You are correct about what you said. ;)
