You're quite right. There are lots of stupid people about. But allowing stupid people access to assault weapons is probably not a good idea.

"Assault Weapons" is just new speak. They function the same as a hunting rifle. When they take those they won't stop.

True. Three more points: 1. You're right, stupid people (to keep things current, radicalized Muslim terrorists) shouldn't have access to guns OR our country. So, let's get them the hell out of here, rather than opening our doors for more of them to come in. 2. Who will be the judge of who the "stupid people" are? You? Obama? 3. I don't recall the 2nd Amendment saying anything about the right to bare arms not applying to particular strata of citizens. Neither does the 1st Amendment, which means that people of limited intelligence (you, me, whoever) can post things like this.

Quite so, so you are left in a situation where anybody can have pretty much any gun they want. Wouldn't it be just simpler to give everyone a few guns to keep it fair?

It's also a shame they took out the bit about "no person religiously scrupulous shall be compelled to bear arms". Why they did that puzzles me.

To your first paragraph, now we're actually starting to find some common ground (although I sense that you are being satirical). Your model is working quite well in Israel.

To your second paragraph, if it were left in it simply would have meant that those with religious leanings towards pacifism could not be drafted to fight. Back when there was a draft, those people would be conscientious objectors. They would still have to serve, but they would be medics, cooks, or some other support role rather than a front line grunt.
