Han shot first, but it was self defense so he's still a good guy.

Actually Han didn't shoot Greedo in self defense in the original version. He just shoots Greedo because he has to get to DB 94. Greedo is trying to get him to Jabba to pay a debt, killing him would only be necessary if Han tries to escape.

That's why GL changed it later. He said he didn't want Han to be a cold blooded killer. Which he is for killing Greedo like that. The SE changes actually make Han's character make more sense. If Han is the kind of guy to shoot first and not care, then why help the Rebels? Why not kill ewoks? Why come back to help Luke at the end of ANH?

All kinds of stuff gets thrown out if Han is the kind of guy who kills without hesitation. Han isn't a bad guy, so GL changed the one scene that made him look that way. Kudos George.

A guy draws a gun on you and intends to take you to a place where you might get killed later depending on the whim of the person who wants you well thats your life endangered right there. Lucas changed it because as he got older he became a sissy liberal. Han never was a cold blooded killer, the shot was justified, Lucas was wrong, he has a habit of being wrong with his later changes. Even if I wrong about all of that (which I don't think I am) and Han is really this callous bad guy then all the better because it works better for his character development when at the end hes not a selfish prick and fights for something bigger than himself. So even if Han didn't shoot first its better if he did shoot first. :)

Jabba had no intentions on killing Han or letting him be killed. He even tells Han later how Han is his best smuggler.

Lucas is also not a liberal. The whole prequel trilogy had the subtext of how our government was being corrupted. Palpatine even signs a Patriot Act in Cone Wars.

Lucas also can't be wrong about his own story. SW is Lucas' still. Disney just owns the rights to it. They didn't create it.

Lucas is only bashed because people jump on that bandwagon thinking it makes them better scifi fans or smarter somehow. It doesn't. It just makes you more presumptuous and ungrateful to the author of SW. The only thing I don't like about SW is Jar Jar and the sell to Disney. That's it. Everything else is as it should be.

Han never was a bad guy. Do you even know how he met Chewie? He was in the Imperial Academy and saw how they were treating some wookie captives. He helped free Chewie and Chewie owed him a life debt.

The only piece of evidence that points to Han ever being bad/evil was him shooting first. Everything else, literally, is how much of an honorable scoundrel he is. Even Lando has similar qualities. Lando only betrayed Han to save a city of thousands.

The only reason Lucas had him shoot first in the first place is because Clint Eastwood films were popular at the time and he wanted people to like Han. That's it. You should listen to the author since he actually knows what he's talking about when it comes to HIS story. :l

But even if he was liberal, it doesn't mean he can't change his own artistic work to suit his visions. It was his at the time. Disney is going to change things too. Have you seen the rewrite of the OT by that lady on Amazon yet? It's written to be more "accessible" to women. Meaning, they changed anything that wasn't PC. That was Disney baby, not GL. :l

to criticize is not to bash, and I don't criticize to seem like anything to anyone. I couldn't care what anyone thinks of me. I'll praise Lucas when I think it's deserved and criticize when I think it's deserved. I am simply not an apologist for Lucas. When I say he was wrong I mean his reasoning that shooting first makes Han bad is wrong.

And it's wrong to shoot someone without knowing your life is in danger. I already pointed out that Han wouldn't have been killed and that he only killed Greedo to get to DB94 faster. Which is completely outside EVERYTHING else about his character. Why not just kill Luke and Ben and take their shit? Because he isn't like that.

I don't agree with one specific decision George Lucas made and to you that means I hate the guy? Seriously do you realize how insane you sound? Many of the changes I do like. I like that Hayden Christensen shows up at the end as a force ghost in RotJ, I also like Hayden Christensen over all as Anakin btw. I like the updated Emperor Palpatine hologram scene, and I actually don't care one way or the other on Vaders "Nooooooooooooooo!" line at the end of RotJ. You see I don't actually hate anything about George Lucas or his decisions because I am not that emotionally invested in Star Wars. But you gotta jump to conclusions about my emotional state because I criticize one thing about it. Chillax man it's just a freaking movie.
