They are in the bible,.. no doubt. I can't speak for all Christians,.. but I think most will agree.. the Old Testamant law is a standard for Gods law that was harsh, because of the reality of sin, which meant a brutal punishment at times. But it is also filled with Gods Mercy, such as when Abraham interceded for Lot to save Sodom & Gamorrah. If one cherry picks its easy to find those punishments, but there are more accounts of mercy. Many of the prophets of that time asked God to punish the wicked much more harshly,.. but God did not. God did have a wrath against sin, and the punishment was death. But much changed with the new testament since Jesus died for our sins. He took away those punishments. I know many evangelicals quote the old testament like Leviticus for their argument against homosexuality,... but they do not suggest "stoning to death" etc. Jesus died for those sins,.. so Christians should want to save those sinners from death ( hell ). Again,... I am not speaking for everyone... just me! And I am keep it as short as possible! =)
