If I were an imgflip mod, I'd be tempted to reduce submissions.

All these memes about downvotes make it seem like people don't have many ideas for memes.

I think alot of it has to do with users seeing something on the front page and then trying to use that same idea in their own meme to see if they can also get to the front page. Downvoting was a very huge problem on imgflip so it proved to be a very popular topic

All too true. What I used to do was I'd look up "memes" on Google images and I saw memes in a totally different way that I see memes on imgflip. I think it's because by looking it up on google, they didn't come from any user, or there weren't any likes or dislikes, it was just there. I knew it had to come from somewhere, but I didn't care. It just seemed like one person was making all these memes, and they understood me. Idk it's hard to explain
