What bothers me more than that is how it costs more to repair something that to get a new one. Our washer and oven have gone out (within a week of each other) And it will cost almost $200 for the washer and over $100 for the oven. I can get both on craigslist for that lol If it cost maybe $50 for each ... you repair and keep your stuff out of the landfill. Break the ceramic part of a crockpot ... a new one costs AS much as a whole new crockpot. And on and on. We were going to get my husband's boots resoled. Cost as much as the boots (they weren't very expensive ... but they are still in good shape ... just need the bottoms redone). When I was coming up ... repairmen worked lol now all that gets repaired are cars and roofs and toilets lol

people aren't as willing to pay for things (or take care of their things) So companies aren't making things as good, so they can keep prices low.

I don't really like to use things that are more complicated than they need to be. Instead of a crock pot, I just use a stainless steel pot. It works just as good or better, has more uses, and it doesn't break. I also don't use dryers, toasters, or other things that aren't very hard to go without.

We've done the same. I love my crockpot but we've done away with the microwave, we're getting creative with the toaster oven in lieu of the big oven we're missing at the moment lol. I would have been fine with the dryer going out because my husband built me a clothesline this year ... but I DO miss my washer lol I've tried the "old fashion"way of washing in the tub. Oooo. I would not have wanted to pick a fight with ladies back in the day. their arms must have been ripped hahaha

I've washed my own clothes by hand, It wasn't bad if I didn't dirty a lot of clothes, but I wouldn't want to do it for a whole family.

It's not the washing, it's the wringing lol If I had a wringer machine ... I could do it. :-)

Right on. The good news is that glass and metals and cloth seem to be making a comeback. And not just with the crunchy types. The pendulum swings :-)
