I wish all you guys who use this stupid "Chicago" gun control argument would actually come here! You know who's killing who in Chicago? Gangs, all who have guns illegally. There is no good guy with a gun vs bad guy with a gun. All the bad guys are killing each other over BS and innocent people get in the way. It's also in isolated areas of the city.

There's unfortunately not much to see when you are here unless you're willing to hang around after dark - but yeah, we're just a bad example.

I you get rid of Chicago, Detroit and Las Angeles, gun violence would be cut by almost 70% in the entire country. The United States is close to the bottom of the list in highest murder rates involving guns, yet you take away these three cities (cities with the toughest gun control laws) the United States would be third from the top of the list.

You're talking nonsense. Indiana, upstate Illinois, and Wisconsin are all short drives from here; Cook county laws mean almost nothing in gauging the effectiveness of these laws, whatever you think of them.

I ought to also remind you that there are parts of Indiana that count as being part of the Chicago conurbation, even if they're technically not part of Cook county.

No - the guns are! Anybody with a car and about 4 hours' worth of gas can drive to an Illinois gun show, or, whatever. NOBODY in Chicago thinks it's particularly difficult to get a gun - good guy, bad guy, doesn't matter.

So if the guns weren't within a 4 hr drive.. there would be no violent gun culture in chicago. . ? I don't think so..

What about all the black on black crime in chicago Dankersons meme mentions? Stats prove it's a violent gun culture. . And because of that.. they will always get and use guns regardless of laws.

Jesus Christ, what about it? They're getting their guns from a guy who bought them legally from upstate. It's nothing to do with Chicago's gun laws, which are undermined by the relaxed laws around Chicago. If gun violence is higher in Chicago, it's because of Chicago's demographics, not its laws.

Look, the causality debate about policy and the effect on crime rate is a whole different topic - and there are parts of that discussion where I do not disagree with you! But my point is, it's not Chicago's laws, because anybody on the South side can take a bus to Gary or Hammond where the laws are different.

And I cannot understand for the life of me why this isn't a valid response to your meme comment about Chicago!

I see what youre saying and i dont really disagree. I just think gun control is a failed endeavor. But my initial meme had nothing to do w gun control. Moreso the hypocrisy of the BLM goons who gather in protest for a criminal slain by cops (rightfully or not) but are nowhere to be found when a criminal shoots a 9 year old black boy 7 times. Just makes zero sense

I DON'T agree with your reasoning, though: Black Lives Matter was very specifically set up to address police violence, which - frankly - I'm white and have a clean record, and the cops still terrify me sometimes. That's a very serious issue. Good guys shouldn't have to fear the police, ever.

Common criminals - murderers, what have you - OK, we don't want them in society, BUT nobody trusted them with a badge to begin with. Nobody invested responsibility to them through the state - OUR state, OUR government. They didn't breach that trust - we didn't GIVE them any trust to begin with. THAT'S the difference: your two cases are not equivalent, and common crime is not BLM's chosen fight (there are MANY black-run movements that DO specifically deal with black-on-black crime).

That's all I have the energy to say tonight, so, I'll tell you what: if you do make a counter-argument, I'll take the time to read it and think about it - but I'm having a bad night, so I'll likely leave you with the last word until some other time.

Your response is valid bro.. and your point on demographics valid too. My point is.. no matter how strict the gun laws in any venue.. bad people will always have access to.. and own weapons prohibited by law. Your statement s reflect this.. correct?

Again, whole different discussion. I'm not really that interested in getting into the nitty gritty details tonight after I got caught out in the rain - maybe a different time, different meme ;)

In brief, just so you know, my position is fairly nuanced. For example, on this particular point: yes, illegal guns will always be present, but a black market is still a market like any other. There's nothing magical about a smuggled commodity that makes it follow its own laws of supply and demand. So if a commodity becomes more difficult to get supplies of - say, by increased regulation - what happens to the market equilibrium? The volume of sales of that commodity goes down. Fewer volumes of illegal guns, leads to fewer rates of illegal gun use. Which, at heart, is REALLY what people are after - reduction, not necessarily elimination.

But should we be concerned about how safe responsible gun owners get their guns? Sure, and as we have seen when we regulate the driving privileges, good honest people are willing to do quite a bit to earn their rights - as long as it's POSSIBLE. We've all dealt with spectacular bullshit from the DMV.
