More specifically than that, he was THE Very Wealthy Man to go to whenever any of the news organizations decided that they needed to get a rich man's perspective on anything - and they went to him on literally all kinds of issues, even ones he had no expertise over at all.
Now the news channels desperately want him to shut up, and he wants to speak louder than ever. It's hilarious.
