No one is banning individuals from owning the confederate flag, it's just being removed from government buildings because the confederacy lost in 1865 so the flag means pretty much nothing at this point other than a support for bigotry or some deluded sense of southern pride (why anyone would be proud of the history attached to that flag is a mystery).
