You would be attacked and harassed by a thousand trolls. Sadly none of us are allowed to have our own opinions anymore.

Opinions are fine but facts are true regardless of opinions. As a history major I can assure you the facts substantiate the civil war was deeply rooted in the rights of the states....to uphold the institution of slavery.
It was about state's rights and whether they could secede, correct? Didn't some states want to secede so they could keep their slaves?

Exactly. And they argued it was their *right* to do so. Without slavery the souths economy was not solvent. Free labor (there are those that will argue it wasnt free because the slaveowners had costs associated with slaves...but they were as close to free as possible) was the only reason the south was so rich and could fund a war at all.
My brother said he heard some speaker say, "People who know nothing about the American Civil War think it was about slavery. Then they do some studying and find out it (italics) wasn't about slavery. Then they do some more studying and find out it actually (italics) was about slavery.
No the war was about money. The souths work force just happened to be slaves. The root of the war had nothing to do with slavery. It is always about the money like every other war on this stupid little rock we dumb ass humans call home.
Being a Christian I disagree, but a lot of the Bible isn't historically confirmed, so I admittedly have to take a large part of it at face value by faith, not proof.
Because then it would be too late. I don't think there is proof for what I believe, at least not that can be found in the near future; that goes for any world view. If I waited for proof, I'd be dead, and then it would be too late.
Because I think the universe and the things in it (that's kind of redundant) point to the existence of a Creator. I don't think randomness could make such a complex universe. Also, I believe other religions are snafu. One thing about the Bible is that it says scientific things that weren't discovered until hundreds (or even thousands) of years later.

History is written by historians. For example the Germans can't deny the halocaust. The victors don't make up facts. The US government can't deny Wounded Knee. The facts are facts. Look deeper than what you "hear" and find real history books. I "heard" Texas school books are going to Include Moses as a Founding Father. Hmm.
“These books make Moses the original founding father and credit him for virtually every distinctive feature of American government,” Wellman said. “Moses shows up everywhere doing everything.”
Stressing some "facts" over others is not employing good historical methods. That's why as an informed reader/student it's important to look at various credible sources.
The civil war was about money. Nothing else. Lincoln freed the slaves to bolster his troops to win the war. They were canon fodder. As a result, the union was able to continue gorging on unfair taxes levied against southern textile merchant and manufacturers. At the same time allowing almost free import for the same products from other countries. The south wanted to form their own country because the union was creating poverty in the south. Black folks were a tool and means to an end.
slavery did play a role...but it wasnt the whole of it...its not in the history books ANYMORE but some states had abolished slavery BEFORE the war began...(would never condone slavery and not taking up for it...but facts should be reported accurately).
What if I told you that there wouldn't have been a Civil War if slavery wasn't an issue in the first place. Quit listening to liberal professors who like to change history for a liberal agenda.
