There's a difference, though. During the dog eating festival, people will steal dogs from other people to kill and eat them.
It's not acceptable to steal cattle, pigs, chickens, or other animals we eat from other people, either.
I don't think most meat eaters would have a problem with it people eating wild dogs or dogs who were raised to be slaughtered and eaten, but people will still dogs from other owners.
I'm a vegetarian, so I don't eat meat at all, but these two are not the same.
