I think it's because the devs are using wrong ideas. Even if there are pony-related stuff coming out, if a Sonic game appeals to people enough, it should be able to sell enough copies.

Agreed. Like Shadow the Hedgehog, that got peoples attention! Especially the rating! XD But If they want to bath in cash. They should listen to their fans ideas again like they did with Sonic Generations (just a theory) and make a Sonic game with the characters as humans. Like the fan art. (But then It might just increase the market for females like Sonic Unleashed (another theory) instead of the regular).

You're right. Sega should probably listen to what fans are saying before trying all sorts of random ideas.
