Mar 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

Do you think Mark 1:17 clarifies thes 2 contradictory verses in any way? If so, how?

i was referring to fishing for a religious discussion.
Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

OK. Maybe you can explain why you think the verses in the meme are not contradictory

Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
i don't see a contradiction, between believing something, and saying things based on what you believe. the 2nd verse follows the first, since believing is justification, and believing not is condemnation. it's not actually the belief that's justification, but the object of that belief, jesus' accepted sacrifice and resurrection.

Of course you don't see a contradiction. You don't want one to be there. Believing something is not justification. Were that true then you would have to concede that a Hindu is justified in believing Vishnu is real because he believes the stories in the Bhagavad Gita. Also, Jesus made no sacrifice since he knew he was going to be resurrected 3 days after execution. (This assumes that there is a grain of truth in the whole story and there is no reason to think that)

yes, that's why i said that the belief is not the justification, but the object of the belief is.
if jesus made no sacrifice, then try to deal with torture and being nailed to a cross, then dying, in the faith that he'd be resurrected. also, he sacrificed the rest of his life he may have had, as he died only in his 30's. the truth is prophecies of him hundreds of years before he arrived.

But if he was resurrected then there was no sacrifice. Also, how can the object of your belief be justification for that belief unless you have compelling, verifiable evidence that the person concerned and the events that he allegedly underwent are true? Your argument can be used to justify a belief that Frodo Baggins - or worse still for a Christian - that Vishnu or Allah is real

he was dead from torture. the sacrifice is his actual physical death that god accepted as the blood sacrifice for everyones' sin, since the wages of sin is death, and jesus paid that price. the witness of jesus from scripture is compelling enough for me to have faith that it is true. sure, you can never go back to the past and see what actually happened, just like our own history. but at least we can see the landmarks, and the oral traditions, and other circumstantial evidence. but it's even more than that, because god is spirit, and scripture could never hold the actual faith/truth that needs to happen to follow him.
