This just makes me laugh uncontrollably, especially if the home-schooled kid happens to come from a religious family. We had a home-schooled kid come to our high school for his senior year. He was socially inept, the poor sap. Had the weird nerve to ask our art teacher how to make a magnesium bomb, which sent up a ton of red flags even though it would just be an incendiary bomb.

Um, yeah. that kid will be building his own business while you are busy trying to fit in. You are such a sheep. C'mon, Ba-a-a-a-a for us.

I went to a private school you ass. Enjoy your arrogance sheep kiddo. That kid never did amount to anything by the way, his reunion told us that much. All the home schooled spawn around here are hippie spawn, not vaccinated, easily diseased, with overly religious conspiracy sheep parents that believe chemicals are being sprayed from planes in an effort to depopulate the masses even though that defies logic as well as science. One child i know of that is home schooled is only home schooled because her grandparents beat her and don't want to explain the bruises to teachers. They've been reported to the authorities a few times by outsiders, which sadly results in them only regaining custody eventually. Your pretentious attitude, very classless by the way. The sheep are the ones that believe their way is the only way and insist that they are right and to hell with the opinions of anyone else even if the other opinions are factual. Nheri is remarkably biased don't you think? Since they are, after all, hell bent on home schooling being superior so they can sell products. Keep this in mind when reading anything, a PhD does not equate to intelligence, common sense, or even a higher social standing. Even a person that graduates at the bottom of their doctorate class can still be called doctor. So that little tidbit of "research" from Dr. What's-his-mug doesn't mean squat. He doesn't even cite sources for his information on the page touting home schooling's superiority. On the bibliography page, it lists works from other non-US countries as well as extremely old articles/books from over 20 years ago. Homeschooling is not superior, it is about the same as public schooling. Those that home school their kids are usually elitist, have a stay at home parent, and a pretty decent income. When public school kids have those things going on at home, they too can excel just as easily. The statistics for homeschooling are flawed as there is really no way to properly compare home schooled kids to public schools kids without taking into consideration the vast differences that exist in the public school population. Anywhoo, there's probably no point to this long post, you'll believe what you want because that's what you've indoctrinated yourself to believe. Delusions, delusions everywhere!

My BS detector is pegged at 10 from all the inaccuracies of your reply. Let's see...... Where should we start? Ah yes, you say you were private schooled but in your previous post you refer to your school as a "High School". That is a term that is not used to describe a private school. Do you know why? The answer is money. A private institution wants to place itself above the Public school moniker of "High School" so all those elitist parents will race to their door trying to get their brat signed up for that top flight education. They prefer terms like Academy to set them apart from that passe public school experience. You can justify that if you want but I already can see that I am dealing with a liar. Now, let's just say that you were a product of private school, you would hardly be an authority on public school success. I mean, your private school experience would potentially garner superior results to the public school. Wouldn't it? Which means the episode you shared about a homeschooled kid asking how to make a bomb (the type is irrelevant) would be handled very differently. In the public school, the police would be called and formal charges would be levied. A private school, however, would contact the parent/guardian to schedule a conference to discuss the matter and what steps THE PRIVATE SCHOOL and THE PARENTS would take to eliminate a repeat of such question or any other questions that may equally raise alarms. Why would the private school do this instead of handling the matter in the same vane as the public school? MONEY! that kid in the private school represents money. If he is ejected from private school, the tuition goes with him. This further demonstrates the stark difference between Private and Public school. You do not seem to have the tools or experience to lecture me about public school. I mean between you and me, I have infinitely more experience in the public school system. I ACTUALLY ATTENDED PUBLIC SCHOOL! From k to 12 unlike you. You know what public school taught me? How to do drugs, drink under age, look at females as nothing but sex objects, get lessons on the virtues of socialism and communism, enjoy police and police K-9 drug sweeps, have my right trampled on and how to disrespect people of authority and elders. I had tons of friends. Where are they now? F**k if I know. many are dead. I went to several funerals. Others got jobs and families and are too busy for all that socialization they learned in school. So much for that

I don't know what country you live in but in the US private catholic schools are called elementary, middle school, and high school unless the school is one institution with all grades in that one building. I attended Lumen Christi Catholic High School in Jackson, Michigan, look it up. My BS meter is going off with everything you posted mostly because of your "holier than thou" attitude as well as flawed statistics being presented as "evidence" for your opinion.

Your experiences with public school are what you allowed to happen to you. Personal choice is a huge factor in whether or not one can excel in life at all and we make personal choices even when we are school aged children. I had friends that drank and partook in doobie smoking regularly but i never did that jazz. My niece and nephew attend public school (they and their parents had lived with us for many years). My niece is in honors classes, entering her senior year, and maintains good grades (she is one that does partake in a little too much doobie smoking her parents allow it--gen x parents scare me-- but thank the gods of sanity she's book smart). My nephew has ADHD and honestly struggled for years with his elementary public school because his mother was in deep denial about his ADHD until his impulsive (sometimes physically aggressive) and hyper behavior became too much to ignore any longer. He is entering 9th grade now and is doing exceptionally well in science and art and will be in honors classes when the year gets going after Labor day. Seeing the variety of classes these kids get to have and hearing about their days makes me wish i hadn't attended that shitty catholic abomination that only restricted creativity and insisted everyone be a clone.

The bomb making incident had some money thrown at it (like everything at that hell hole) and went away. Those that have been duped into believing private and catholic institutions offer a better curriculum and better social experience have been sadly misled. Maybe the super fancy boarding schools do, but the piddly expensive catholic schools offered around here are terrible.

You seem to have a bad grasping of the concept of socialism by the way since our entire country depends upon socialist ideas to survive and socialist ideas were used by the founding fathers. And humans are pack animals buddy, whether you want to believe it or not, we are no different than the other apes in that respect. Pack mentality is born into us. Some of us

I think that you are a very intelligent person and equally well educated. You carry yourself well in conversation. I thought you were older than you obviously are. It is I that needs to apologize for my language in my last post. I did not realize that I was conversing with somebody that was still in high/parochial school. Sorry about that. You make very valid points. I would like to believe we have learned from each other in this whole debate. I am from PA. in PA, Catholic schools are called, as you pointed out, elementary, middle and high school but in PA Catholic school Is refereed to as parochial school. While they are technically a private school, they do not usually have the same vetting process as most private schools. If you can afford the tuition, your in. You don't even have to be Catholic. But, it is a tuition paid school so you are technically correct about it being private. I don't know if you are familiar you are with Philadelphia area schools but they are very poor and have been taken over by state and federal oversight due such poor performance. Anyway, You definitely seem you are a well spoken and intelligent young man. Your parents should be proud of you. You are correct. We probably won't convince each other to switch our opinion but I hope you did learn as much from me as I have from you. I am sorry I did not reply sooner. Between teaching the kids with my wife and taking some college courses, I have been quite busy. Oh, and of course there is the holiday. Happy Labor Day. I do look forward to hearing from you again. It really has been a pleasure.

Lol, i've been out of school for 11 years now and i'm female :) . But i accept the apology and apologize for my own attitude in my responses. I have heard some pretty bad things about Philadelphia schools so i can understand the dislike for those. Location has a lot to do with school quality. Our public schools aren't rated real well here due to ridiculous standardized testing but they are generally safe places for kids and if a child wants to they can excel and receive a good education. Our high schools are even connected with programs at the community college so kids can get hands on training in certain fields. I know schools in Detroit are pretty bad, that seems to be the case with most large cities these days. We small town folks though still have okay public schools. Happy Labor day, i hope you enjoy the holiday :) Keep up the good work with your kiddos :)

That's the power of communication. Long thought out responses can often result in a meeting of the minds and understanding. Not always mind you, but often :)
