No, the wickedness of humanity is the root of all evil. Religion is simply used as an excuse to carry out atrocities. The seeds for wickedness must be in place already for one to be evil. I'm not fond of religion because it offers an excuse for the wicked to do wicked things, but i do agree with the meme that it is not the root of the problem.
