I suspect you missed the point. See if this allegory helps: If there is a pizza and eight poor people, for each to eat, you should cut eight equal slices in common. But a little bit does not feed them well. They all will be hungry. But if only two people are eyeing the pizza, they each in common get a half ideally and are now no longer hungry.
This is how 800 million believe themselves no longer impoverished.
Just as Americans believe themselves free, when they are poised on the cliff of communism.
