Socialism is an attempt to redistribute wealth and reduce the power of a non-productive class. The logical conclusion of it is that the state is empowered and is able to intervene in economic affairs, which doesn't work because the state is just another non-productive class.

Socialism is when businesses are owned by the state or by the workers.

Your definition of socialism is based on what you think it should be. It's not truly "owned by the workers" just as any prior socialist state wasn't.
