I believe that everyone is messed up in some way, it's just that you gotta surround yourself with people that you agree with and accept their flaws because you have those too, and I get what you mean because I have seen cases where people are supporting people who should definitely not be supported, but there are some genuinely decent people, and I feel like we shouldn't base everyone on what we have seen from other people, that's just my opinion though.
